Chocolate discovered in the 14th century
and still has ‘magical’ effects on most
of us. With everyone having such a love for chocolates,
its no surprise that there are actually chocolate
festivals held worldwide each year. These special
Festivals are held in its name all over the world, to
discover its magic and to bring the chocolate lover
out of you once again! This is where it’s believed
to have started, Perugia Italy. From a time where it
was just celebrated in one place, the phenomenon has
since spread to Sweden, Paris, New York and is catching
up everywhere else.
The festival of Perugia
held in its historic city centre is attracts thousands
every year since it started in 1993. Chocolate confectioners
come from everywhere to exchange and maybe even discover
new methods of perfecting chocolate. Covering a period
of over a week, it transforms itself into an open air
confectioner,
comparable to Charlie’s
Chocolate Factory! The organizers aim to please
chocolate lovers as well as the skeptics, educating
visitors on chocolate and its properties, uses and benefits.
Cooking classes, chocolate tasting in different forms,
exhibitions etc… there’s something for everyone.
The festival ends with prizes to award winning chocolatiers
who put in tireless efforts to make that perfect chocolate.
In Sweden, the Linkoping Chocolate
Festival is the Chocolate Connoisseur’s
heaven. Chocolatiers from all over the world exhibit
their sweet produces here. Visitors to the festival
can sample to their satisfaction and for the more in-depth
chocolate foodie, you can attend the seminars. Drinks
are served to compliment the various assortments of
chocolates exhibited.
In the U.K., Chocolate Week
in October boasts of some renowned participants like
Fortnum and Maison, Godiva, Harrods and the list goes
on. On a different approach, restaurants will participate
in this festival with special chocolate offerings throughout
the week. The festival helps put you in the Christmas
mood and maybe, with Christmas gifts. Sample divine
chocolates, dip into chocolate fountains and admire
chocolate sculptures at the festival. You will not be
disappointed.
Once and probably still described as
the described as the food of Gods, wherever you may
be, there is a high chance, you will not have to travel
far for Chocolate Festivals. Organizers know this ‘sweet’
blessing is one of the biggest money-making industries
in the world today.
