Peruvian
chocolate
Some people consider Peruvian chocolate
to be one of the best in the world. In Europe Belgium
and Swiss chocolate are rated highly, but it is from
South America where the cocoa tree is tree is commonly
found. The fact that the cocoa tree is so close to
home for Peru, perhaps reflects on the excellent white
and dark quality chocolate in addition to everything
up to 100%.
The town of Piura is
one sample of a place where chocolate is important
and one of the bitter white version is famous
for its quality. There are in fact a number of great
brands from Peru and many attribute Peru with being
one of the first producers of chocolate.
One of my favourite Peruvian brands comes
by the name of Montezuma and this
comes in a variety of percentages of chocolate although
the
70% versions are a great level of cocoa for a strong
dark chocolate.
In Peru there are a number of different
cocoa beans and two of the popular ones include:
- Trinitario
cocoa beans, and
- Criollo cocoa beans.
The vegetation and climate and the topology make Peru
a very good country as a chocolate producer and countries
around South American and the United States benefit
from the Peruvian exports such as Montezuma.
