A
guide to Cadbury’s the chocolate maker
When you think of chocolate, what name comes to mind?
Cadbury’s of course.
Synonymous with the chocolate industry, Cadbury is
the world’s largest confectionary and beverage
company, with its headquarters in London, United Kingdom.
Founded in 1889, the firm was formerly known as Cadbury
Schweppes plc before demerging in May 2008, and now
goes by the name of Cadbury plc.
With an outstanding portfolio of chocolates, it is
not surprising that Cadbury operates in over 60 countries
and employers over 50,000 people. If you think that
because you are not a fan of chocolate, you have not
had anything from the Cadbury label, think again. Ever
had Clorets, Halls or Dentyne Ice? Yes, those brands
are indeed a part of the Cadbury family.
With an impressive
research and development team, Cadbury have now diversified
into other types of confectionery like gum and candy,
making a big impact on the market with almost anything
they come up with. The Cadbury Mega Brand’s family
of products has an international retail value approaching
US$1billion.
One of Cadbury’s first product brands, which
is probably its biggest till today, would be the Cadbury
Dairy Milk Chocolate brand. The famous slogan “a
glass and a half of fresh liquid milk in every half
pound” with the picture of milk pouring onto
the chocolate bar, is said to be one of the all-time
greats of British advertising history. Apart from making
history in Great Britain, Cadbury have partnered cocoa
producers from Africa, Asia and the Caribbean, making
a further impact globally. This move has won
the approval of the United Nations lauding their move
as one of social responsibility.
Cadbury have taken the candy world by storm. Their
numerous brands have risen to success and are on the
lips of both adults and little children everyday as
their favorite snack and little sneak treat. Featured
brands like Cadbury Crème Egg, Cadbury Eclairs,
Green & Blacks and much more have given Cadbury
its fame with all the consumers, but that’s not
the only thing that has got people loving this brand.
For one, they pride themselves on listening and responding
to consumers’ needs to protect the long history
of trust they have with their consumers.
In 2007, Cadbury made a further effort to be more
than just a company with great branding. The Cadbury
Purple Goes Green initiative launched in July 2007
showed their vision to tackle climate change and be
more involved, intensifying their environmental stance
and setting an example for companies all around the
world.
